Speaking to host Charleyy Hodson on the Day 1 coverage on the Xbox @ Gamescom Livestream, Phil Spencer commented on Indiana Jones coming to PS5 in Autumn 2025 after its initial release on Xbox and PC December 9th.
Phil speaks to change being industry wide and not exclusive to Xbox but does acknowledge that Xbox is a business that does need to repay Microsoft for the level of the support they receive.
With the lack of growth in the Games industry of late and cost of developing games going up, this will come as no surprise to many however is being viewed by some online as in contention with comments Phil made earlier in the year when announcing that four games from Xbox would go cross platform. When all the comments are taken into account, there is no contention, but narratives are forming around this story and Xbox does not seem to be taking a Rules Based approach to this change.
Phil then goes on to set expectations that further change is coming.
We just have to anticipate there’s going to be more change in how some of the traditional ways that games were built and distributed, that’s going to change. That’s going to change… for all of us. But the end result has to be better games that more people can play.
