YouTube Channel DidYouKnowGaming has released a new video “Crash Bandicoot 5: The Cancelled Spyro Crossover & The Fall of Crash Team Rumble” diving into the recent history of former Activision studio, Toys for Bob.
Toys for Bob, known for Pandemonium!, Skylanders, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4, recently became an independent studio splitting from the now Xbox owned Activision after their projects were cancelled and they were left supporting Call of Duty Warzone.
DidYouKnowGaming dives into the story of how, Spyro Reignited, Crash Bandicoot 4 and Crash Team Rumble came to be whilst also exploring how many Toys for Bob pitches and started projects did not come to be. Some of the unreleased titles include an original IP and a more feature rich Multiplayer Crash game known as Wumpa League.
Of the non-released titles, Crash Bandicoot 5 was shaping up to be the wildest with the game becoming a Spyro crossover. The game would have Crash and Team going to Spyro’s dimension to save it from Uka Uka with possible sequences that would explore the past and minds of main characters such as Aku Aku. Unfortunately, the project did not fit with the direction of Activision with live service games.
I highly recommend watching DidYouKnowGaming’s video if you have any interest in Toys for Bob and the games they have so passionately worked on. The highly engaging story leaves me hoping that whatever they are working on for Xbox, it might just be exactly what they want to be working on.
A teaser for Toys for Bob’s upcoming project is currently (Aug 2024) the only thing on their website.
