Ubisoft has just closed its UK studio based in Leamington, and laid off 50 of its employees. In addition, other units of the company, in cities such as Düsselford, Stockholm and Newcastle, will have their workforces reduced.
“As part of our ongoing efforts to prioritise projects and reduce costs that ensure long-term stability at Ubisoft, we have announced targeted restructurings at Ubisoft Düsseldorf, Ubisoft Stockholm and Ubisoft Reflections and the permanent closure of Ubisoft Leamington site,” a Ubisoft spokesperson said in a statement to Eurogamer.
“Unfortunately, this should impact 185 employees overall. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and are committed to supporting them through this transition.”

Ubisoft has repeatedly reduced its employee count since 2022, when it employed 20,279 people. By the end of September 2024, Ubisoft employed 18,666. From this new announcement In total, 185 employees will be laid off. This adds more fuel to the rumours of a possible merger or sale of Ubisoft to Chinese company Tencent.
Sad news to be sure here’s hoping that all the people without a job will land on their feet.

One response to “Ubisoft closes UK studio based in Leamington lays off 185 staff”
I feel like Ubisoft has been missing the mark for some time now, chasing trends, maybe trying to chase / maximise profits, and it hasn’t been working for them. I honestly think they need to get back to their root basics and create something different / new and not just keep doing the same old thing. I think it really wouldn’t hurt them to finish their Prince of Persia and Splinter Cell remakes or Remasters. It has been a long time since fans have had anything to eat, and they are ravenous. A Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 or 2 remaster with full co-op campaigns would go down a treat IMO too.
