PS3 Has Received A New System Software Update in 2025

To maintain Blu-ray compatibility.

Sony has released a new system software update for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), bringing the console to version 4.92. This update, launched on March 5, 2025, aims to enhance system performance and renew the Blu-ray player encryption key, ensuring continued compatibility with new Blu-ray disc releases.

To install the update, users need at least 200 MB of free space on their PS3’s hard drive or removable storage media. The update can be downloaded directly to the system via the internet or manually using a USB storage device.

Despite ceasing PS3 manufacturing in 2017, Sony continues to provide annual updates for the console, primarily to maintain Blu-ray compatibility.
