Niantic, the developer behind Pokémon Go, has agreed to sell its entire gaming division to Saudi-owned Scopely for $3.5 billion. This strategic move allows Niantic to focus on geospatial technology, spinning off its geospatial AI business into a new firm called Niantic Spatial, led by CEO John Hanke.

The acquisition includes popular titles such as Pokémon Go, Pikmin Bloom, and Monster Hunter Now, along with Niantic’s team of game developers. Scopely, known for games like Monopoly Go!, aims to expand its audience to over 500 million players through this deal.

This transaction aligns with Saudi Arabia’s broader strategy to invest in the gaming industry, leveraging its Public Investment Fund to become a global gaming hub.
