Rockstar Games Parent Company Sues ‘GTA Online Black Market’ Provider

Not The First

Take-Two Interactive, the publisher of Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), has filed a lawsuit against PlayerAuctions, a third-party online marketplace owned by China’s Paiao Network Technology. The lawsuit alleges that PlayerAuctions facilitates the sale of unauthorized GTA Online content, including modded player accounts, in-game assets, and virtual currency obtained through hacking and cheats. Take-Two claims that PlayerAuctions generates millions in revenue by promoting these illicit transactions, which undermine the game’s fairness and balance.

Specifically, the lawsuit accuses PlayerAuctions of offering services such as account boosting, modded accounts, and currency drops. These services provide players with unfair advantages, such as high-level rankings and substantial in-game currency, disrupting the intended gameplay experience. Take-Two contends that these activities violate their terms of service, as well as copyright and trademark laws.

This legal action follows similar lawsuits filed by other gaming companies, including Roblox, against PlayerAuctions for facilitating unauthorized sales and promoting cheating within their respective games.
