Mountaintop Studios, the developer behind the free-to-play shooter Spectre Divide, has announced that both the game and the studio will be shutting down. Launched in September 2024, Spectre Divide offered a unique 3v3 tactical shooter experience where players controlled two characters simultaneously. Despite attracting approximately 400,000 players in its first week and peaking at 10,000 concurrent players, the game struggled to maintain a sustainable player base and revenue.

Efforts to revitalize the game’s popularity, including the Season 1 launch in February 2025 and expansions to console platforms, were unsuccessful. The studio cited insufficient active players and revenue to cover operational costs as primary reasons for the closure. Mountaintop Studios will cease operations by the end of this week, and Spectre Divide is expected to go offline within the next 30 days. Refunds will be issued for purchases made since the Season 1 launch.
