Nintendo has inadvertently revealed the existence of “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” games through details about its upcoming Virtual Game Card system. This system, designed to facilitate digital game sharing among consoles linked to the same Nintendo Account, includes a footnote stating that “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition games can only be loaded on a Nintendo Switch 2 system.”
The mention of “Switch 2 Edition” games suggests that certain titles will receive enhanced versions optimized for the Switch 2, taking advantage of the console’s advanced hardware capabilities. These enhancements may include improved graphics, performance, or additional features compared to their original Switch releases. However, Nintendo has not specified which games will receive these enhancements or whether there will be additional costs associated with accessing the upgraded versions.
Anticipation is building as more details about the Switch 2, including its release date, price, and game line-up, are expected to be unveiled during a Nintendo Direct presentation scheduled for April 2, 2025.

Looks like a combo of both. Feels like small updates will be free and larger updates paid.
