Switch 2 will be $100 cheaper in Japan w/region lock, while a region-free version is close to western prices.

Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced differently in Japan compared to other regions. The Japanese-language-only version will retail for 49,980 yen (approximately $599.76 AUD), while the multi-language version will be available for 69,980 yen (approximately $839.76 AUD).

The Japanese-language-only version will have Japanese as the sole system language, and only Nintendo Accounts with the country/region set to Japan can be linked. This version will be available at retail and on e-commerce websites in Japan.

In contrast, the multi-language version, which supports multiple languages, will be available exclusively through the Japanese My Nintendo Store. This version is priced higher to account for the additional language support and to discourage speculative imports, especially given the current weakness of the yen.

This pricing strategy aims to make the Switch 2 more accessible to Japanese consumers while addressing concerns about reselling and currency fluctuations.
