Phil Spencer, CEO of Microsoft Gaming, has expressed enthusiasm about the company’s plans for handheld gaming devices. In a recent interview with iJustine, when asked about Xbox’s upcoming projects, Spencer hinted at forthcoming handheld initiatives, stating, “We’ve teased and talked about handhelds and I’m very excited because we both travel, and sometimes you can’t always take your console or your whole gaming desktop with you.”
This excitement aligns with Microsoft’s broader strategy to make gaming more accessible across various platforms. Spencer emphasized that the focus is on the gamer rather than a specific device, aiming to ensure that games, save data, and entitlements are available wherever players go.
Reports suggest that Microsoft is collaborating with ASUS on a handheld device codenamed “Keenan,” expected to feature Xbox Cloud Gaming support and a design reminiscent of Xbox aesthetics. While an official release date has not been confirmed, Spencer’s comments indicate that the project is progressing, fuelling anticipation among gamers for a portable Xbox experience in the near future.
