The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Is Out Now — And It’s Absolutely Glorious

Finally

After months of speculation and a surprise teaser drop the day before, Bethesda has finally announced and launched The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, and yes — it’s available right now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The remaster brings the 2006 RPG classic into the modern era, built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, and includes massive upgrades across visuals, audio, and gameplay systems. Oh, and if you’re a Game Pass subscriber? You can jump into Cyrodiil immediately, no extra cost.

Visuals Reborn in Unreal Engine 5

This isn’t your standard upscaled re-release. Oblivion Remastered features rebuilt character models, environments, and weather systems, with dynamic lighting, real-time shadows, and breathtaking water reflections. From the Imperial City skyline to the eerie Deadlands, Tamriel has never looked this good — or this haunting.

Revamped Gameplay Meets Modern Expectations

While the heart of Oblivion is intact — the open-world exploration, the freedom to play your way, the notorious cheese wheels — Bethesda has introduced modernized mechanics inspired by Skyrim and recent RPG innovations. Expect:

  • A new hybrid leveling system
  • Improved third-person camera controls
  • Sprinting and dodging mechanics
  • Overhauled enemy AI
  • And yes, better inventory management (thank the Nine Divines).

Enhanced Audio and Voice Work

In one of the most unexpected — and welcome — upgrades, the remaster features re-recorded dialogue with distinct racial voice sets, new ambient audio, and remastered music. The once-memed lines are still here, but they now hit with a whole new level of immersion.

All Expansions Included

You’ll get the full Oblivion experience: both Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles are bundled with the base game. And yes, Sheogorath’s madness still reigns supreme — only this time, with higher fidelity madness.

Editions and Pricing

  • Standard Edition – $84.95
Includes the remastered base game and all expansions.
  • Deluxe Edition – $99.95
Adds an exclusive digital artbook, unique in-game gear, and the remastered soundtrack.

If Skyrim Anniversary Edition was a love letter to fans, Oblivion Remastered is the full-on romantic poem — complete with visual fireworks and a better UI. For old-school fans, it’s a dream come true. For new players, it’s the perfect entry into the pre-Skyrim era.

And if this is what Bethesda can do with a remaster, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for The Elder Scrolls VI.
