Star Wars: Eclipse Concept Art Leak Offers First Real Look at Characters in Over Three Years

A galaxy far, far away—like you’ve never seen it before

After nearly three years of radio silence, Star Wars: Eclipse is finally back in the spotlight—but not in the way Quantic Dream likely intended. A recent leak has surfaced online, offering a deep dive into concept art from the game and giving fans their first real glimpse at the cast of characters from this mysterious Star Wars project since its 2021 reveal.

Originally announced at The Game Awards in 2021, Star Wars: Eclipse is being developed by Quantic Dream, the studio behind narrative-heavy titles like Detroit: Become Human and Heavy Rain. Set during the High Republic era—an unexplored timeline in mainstream Star Wars gaming—the project has been the subject of intense speculation, in part due to its ambitious setting and Quantic Dream’s unique design philosophy.

Now, newly surfaced concept art is shedding light on some of what players might encounter in the game.

Leaked Characters and Species

The artwork, reportedly pulled from the portfolio of a concept artist who worked briefly on the project, showcases an assortment of alien species and potential main characters. While the leaks remain unverified by Quantic Dream, the consistency of the designs with previously seen Eclipse footage lends them credibility.

The most striking images include:

  • Rodians: Best known as the species of Greedo in A New Hope, the Rodians appear in updated, battle-ready attire—suggesting more than just a background role.
  • Gungan Character: A brand-new Gungan design is featured prominently, but before anyone jumps to conclusions—no, it’s not Jar Jar Binks. This character appears far more grounded, dressed in High Republic-era robes and sporting a serious demeanor, a far cry from the bumbling comedic relief of the prequels.
  • Zenezians: This lesser-known species may be getting a bigger spotlight. The concept designs reveal elegant, tall humanoids with regal posture and intricately detailed wardrobe, hinting at a possible political or Jedi-connected role.

Two names were also revealed alongside character portraits: Jotraaaz Kammzzzek and Travis. While no roles have been confirmed, the presence of specific names attached to designs typically signals narrative significance. Whether these are companions, villains, or faction leaders remains to be seen.

What Does This Mean for the Game?

Star Wars: Eclipse has been caught in a whirlwind of rumors, from development delays to staffing shortages. While no official update has been given on its release timeline, industry sources have repeatedly indicated that the game is still in early development. With Quantic Dream’s parent company NetEase reportedly shifting its internal focus toward larger global franchises, fans have feared that Eclipse might be quietly shelved or extensively retooled.

This leak, however, suggests otherwise.

The level of polish and variety in the concept art points to a game still actively being developed behind the scenes. The focus on non-human characters could also reflect an intent to move away from traditional Star Wars archetypes and introduce players to lesser-known corners of the galaxy—consistent with the promise of a High Republic setting.

A New Narrative Frontier

Unlike the Skywalker Saga, the High Republic offers narrative freedom. Jedi aren’t rare—they’re at their peak. The Republic is stable. And the Sith? Lurking, maybe, but not the primary threat. That opens the door to complex faction conflicts, moral ambiguity, and a much more layered galaxy.

Quantic Dream’s reputation lies in branching storylines and difficult choices, and Eclipse was marketed as “an intricately branching narrative game” with multiple playable characters. Seeing species like Gungans, Rodians, and Zenezians take center stage could signal a fresh direction for Star Wars storytelling—one where alien perspectives and galactic politics are more than just set dressing.

Don’t Expect Gameplay Any Time Soon

Even with these leaks rekindling hype, fans shouldn’t hold their breath for a gameplay reveal. Based on previous reports and Quantic Dream’s track record, Star Wars: Eclipse likely won’t release until at least 2027. In the meantime, these concept art images are the best glimpse we’ve had in years—and they hint at a universe that’s both familiar and boldly new.

For now, Quantic Dream has remained silent on the leaks. Whether that changes in the coming weeks remains to be seen, but with Star Wars Day (May 4th) just around the corner, there’s no better time for an official update.
