rumour has it Microsoft is currently developing three new Xbox controller prototypes, with one of them being a direct successor to the Elite Series 2.
According to sources familiar with the hardware roadmap, the three controllers are currently in various stages of development and are expected to cater to different segments of the Xbox user base—ranging from budget-conscious gamers to competitive players.
Elite Series 3 In the Works
The most high-end of the trio is the Elite Wireless Controller Series 3, which is described as a “next-gen premium gamepad.” Internal documents suggest the controller will include improved haptic feedback, adjustable triggers with mechanical tension, and a notable new feature: Direct-to-Cloud connectivity, allowing the controller to bypass the console and reduce latency by connecting directly to Xbox Cloud Gaming servers.
Aesthetically, the Elite Series 3 appears to retain much of the same design DNA as the Series 2 but with upgraded materials and improved battery efficiency.
To Recap
- Improved connectivity
- Enhanced haptic feedback
- Adjustable triggers with resistance
- Advanced features like “Direct-to-Cloud” connectivity, allowing the controller to connect directly to Wi-Fi for reduced latency
Sebile – A New Mid-Tier Contender
The second controller—codenamed Sebile—aims to offer premium features at a mid-range price. Originally referenced in leaked FTC filings from 2023, Sebile has reportedly undergone several revisions and is now expected to ship with:
- DualSense-style haptics
- Gyroscopic motion controls
- Lift-to-wake functionality
- Bluetooth 5.2 support
- Swappable rechargeable battery
Sebile is internally being positioned as a hybrid controller suitable for both Xbox and PC gaming, with a particular focus on streaming performance and cross-platform functionality.
A Budget-Friendly Option Also Incoming
The third controller is being described internally as a low-cost refresh of the standard Xbox Wireless Controller. While details are limited, sources say it will forgo advanced features like haptics and gyro but may come with new color options and marginal ergonomic improvements.
Unlike Sebile and the Elite Series 3, this model is not expected to feature Direct-to-Cloud support, making it a more traditional offering in terms of connectivity.
What This Means for Xbox
Microsoft’s controller development pipeline reflects a broader strategy to diversify its hardware lineup as the gaming landscape shifts further into cloud-first and cross-platform territory. While no firm release windows were provided, it’s believed that at least one of these controllers could launch by Holiday 2025, likely alongside new Game Pass cloud initiatives.
As always, 1-Up Games will continue to track this story and provide updates as they become available.

One response to “Xbox Developing Three New Controllers, Including Elite Series 3”
Happy to hear this. XBOX controllers are my favourite feel / design for general use, and the trigger vibrations are a game changer in FORZA games. I really wouldn’t use any other controller if I could, except for fighting games where i need 6 button layout.
