Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II Officially Announced — Retro Carnage Returns in 2026

The Emperor’s will returns in pixelated fury — bigger guns, bloodier heretics, and no mercy in the 41st millennium.

Auroch Digital and Focus Entertainment have officially lifted the lid on Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II, the blood-soaked sequel to 2023’s surprise hit retro-FPS. The announcement dropped during this year’s Warhammer Skulls Showcase, confirming that the chainsword-swinging, boltgun-blasting Ultramarine will return for another pixelated crusade through the grimdark far future in 2026.

A Bigger, Bloodier, and Bolder Sequel

If the original Boltgun was a love letter to ‘90s boomer shooters like Doom and Quake, Boltgun II is a full-on heavy metal opera. According to Auroch Digital, the sequel will expand on the core formula with new enemies, larger levels, and a branching single-player campaign that gives players more control over how they purge heresy.

You’ll once again step into the ceramite boots of Malum Caedo, an Ultramarine Sternguard Veteran, who’s trading the cramped corridors of Forge Worlds for everything from teeming hive cities to decaying jungle swamps. This time, he’s up against a fresh wave of Chaos filth, including Khornate Bloodletters, Skull Cannons, and Juggernauts of Khorne — all rendered in gloriously chunky sprites and pixelated gore.

New Toys for the Emperor’s Chosen

One of the most exciting reveals is the updated arsenal. While the classic boltgun still delivers explosive justice, Boltgun II introduces new tools of destruction. While specifics are being kept under wraps, the teaser trailer features what looks like a Volkite weapon.

The devs are also teasing “more verticality and tactical options” in combat — a direct response to player feedback from the first game. Expect enemies to swarm from all angles and more environmental hazards designed to keep the action frantic.

No Multiplayer — For Now

Despite calls for a co-op mode or PVP arena, Boltgun II remains a strictly single-player affair — at least at launch. Auroch hasn’t ruled out future content drops or modes, but they’ve made it clear the focus is on delivering a highly polished solo campaign that doubles down on everything fans loved about the original.

Surprise Spin-Off: Words of Vengeance

In a surprising side announcement, Auroch Digital also revealed Boltgun: Words of Vengeance, a free-to-play typing game available now on Steam. It’s basically Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing with gallons of Chaos blood. You defeat enemies by typing words as they charge you — and yes, it’s just as ridiculous as it sounds.

Release Date and Platforms

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun II is set to launch in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. No word yet on whether a Nintendo Switch version is in the works, though given the original’s successful port, it’s not off the table.

With its stylized ultraviolence, tongue-in-cheek humor, and reverence for the source material, Boltgun II is shaping up to be another blood-soaked romp through the 41st millennium. For fans of the first game — or anyone craving some old-school mayhem in a modern package — this looks like one to watch.
