Ubisoft Teases Major Splinter Cell Reveal Ahead of Summer Game Fest

The goggles are on. Sam Fisher is back. Hopefully.

Ubisoft has officially entered tease mode, dropping a cryptic but unmistakable hint at what’s to come for the long-dormant Splinter Cell franchise – and just in time for Summer Game Fest.

Late yesterday, Ubisoft posted a minimalist but telling image of series protagonist Sam Fisher on its social media channels, accompanied by the hashtag #SplinterCell and a pair of suggestive eye and zipper-mouth emojis. The post, devoid of any other context, immediately sparked speculation across the Splinter Cell community and wider gaming circles.

Sources suggest that this is more than just a social media stunt. We’re told that Ubisoft is gearing up for a full-blown reveal of the long-in-development Splinter Cell Remake – and that it could happen as soon as Summer Game Fest 2025, set for June 6.

A Long Time Coming

Ubisoft first announced the Splinter Cell Remake back in December 2021, confirming that the project was in development at Ubisoft Toronto. Since then, however, updates have been sparse. Built from the ground up using the Snowdrop Engine – the same engine powering The Division, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and the upcoming Star Wars Outlaws – the remake aims to faithfully reimagine the 2002 classic while modernizing its visuals, gameplay, and narrative.

The developer has previously stated that the team is taking its time to “do it right,” with a clear emphasis on maintaining the series’ iconic stealth-focused gameplay. Job listings over the last two years have pointed to a story rewrite designed for a modern audience, though Ubisoft has repeatedly stressed it wants to “keep the spirit” of the original intact.

What to Expect at SGF 2025

With Summer Game Fest just days away, industry insiders and leakers alike are aligning on the likelihood of a full gameplay trailer, developer breakdown, or at least a proper release window reveal during the showcase. Ubisoft is no stranger to using large-scale events to revive legacy IPs, and the timing lines up perfectly – it’s been nearly 20 years since Sam Fisher’s last mainline outing, Splinter Cell: Blacklist (2013).

We’ve also heard whispers that the reveal might include more than just the remake. A new animated series, Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, is also on the slate. Produced by Ubisoft Film & Television in partnership with Netflix, the show will see Liev Schreiber voicing Sam Fisher and is expected to debut in late 2025.

Whether Deathwatch ties directly into the game remains to be seen, but the coordinated marketing push signals a broader multimedia revival of the franchise – not unlike what we’ve seen recently with Assassin’s Creed and The Division.

A New Era for Sam Fisher?

For fans, this teaser is the first major sign of life for a franchise that many had assumed Ubisoft had quietly shelved. While Fisher has made occasional cameos in Rainbow Six Siege and Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, the lack of a dedicated Splinter Cell title for over a decade has been a sore spot for longtime supporters of the brand.

If the tease is any indication, Ubisoft is finally ready to bring Sam Fisher back into the spotlight – and not just as a nostalgic footnote. The publisher is clearly betting big on stealth in a gaming landscape increasingly dominated by open-world fatigue and live-service burnout.

Ubisoft’s teaser may have been light on details, but it was heavy on implications. With the publisher reportedly ready to showcase major titles during Summer Game Fest and its own Ubisoft Forward event on June 10, all signs point to Splinter Cell making a high-profile comeback – and sooner than many expected.

  1. I AM SO READY…. for Ubisoft to totally disappoint me again. It totally looks like they are going to be announcing the rumoured TV series, which if I am not mistaken, has Michael Ironside reprising his roll as the voice of Sam Fisher. A TV series would be good yeah, sure, ok….. but we really really need a game. Either a REMASTER, a REMAKE, or Something totally new. Either way, I’ll be here, ready for Ubi to drive another stake through my heart. It doesn’t even really hurt that much anymore, you get used to it.
