Capcom surprised fans during Summer Game Fest 2025 by officially unveiling Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the legendary survival horror franchise. The game is set to launch on February 27, 2026, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
A Haunting New Story in Raccoon City
Resident Evil Requiem centers around FBI agent Grace Ashcroft, who investigates a series of gruesome deaths at a hotel tied to the murder of her mother eight years prior. The investigation plunges her into the crumbling remnants of Raccoon City, a setting familiar to longtime fans but now rendered with next-gen visual fidelity and a fresh narrative perspective.
This return to the decimated city promises a blend of psychological horror and action, as Grace uncovers dark secrets hidden beneath the ruins. The narrative appears to embrace the franchise’s roots, focusing on atmosphere, tension, and survival.
Gameplay and Visual Upgrades
While Capcom has been tight lipped on detailed gameplay mechanics, the announcement trailer hints at a gameplay style that merges high-intensity combat with strategic survival horror elements. The visuals showcase lifelike character models, realistic lighting, and immersive environmental design that bring Raccoon City’s horror to life like never before.
The game is helmed by director Koshi Nakanishi, who has a strong track record in delivering tense, story-driven horror experiences within the Resident Evil series.
Resident Evil Requiem looks set to reinvigorate the series with a chilling new story and cutting-edge visuals. Fans of survival horror and the Resident Evil universe should mark their calendars for early 2026.
