Black Myth: Wukong Is Finally Coming to Xbox Series X|S This August

After months of speculation and eager anticipation, Xbox players will finally get their hands on one of the most visually stunning action RPGs in recent memory.

The Wait Is Over

Game Science has officially confirmed that Black Myth: Wukong is coming to Xbox Series X|S on August 20, 2025 exactly one year after its original release on PlayStation 5 and PC. The news comes after a long period of silence regarding the Xbox version, with fans speculating everything from technical hurdles to timed exclusivity. As it turns out, it was the former.

According to Game Science, the delay was largely due to optimization issues on the Xbox Series S. The studio reportedly faced significant challenges adapting the game’s demanding visuals and physics-based combat system to the less powerful console. But after a year of development and fine-tuning, the team is confident that Xbox players will receive a version that lives up to the high standard set on other platforms.

Pre-Order Bonuses and Discounts

To celebrate the long-awaited Xbox release, Black Myth: Wukong will be available for pre-order starting June 18, with a 20% launch discount on all editions of the game. The discount will run until July 11 on the Microsoft Store.

PlayStation 5 and PC players aren’t being left out either. Game Science is also offering identical 20% discounts on those platforms from June 18-July 3 for PS5 and June 20-July 11 for PC. If you’ve been holding off on grabbing this mythical action epic, now might be the perfect time.

The Myth in Motion

For the uninitiated, Black Myth: Wukong is a single-player action RPG rooted in the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West. Players take on the role of the Destined One, a staff-wielding warrior who mirrors the legendary Monkey King, Sun Wukong. With jaw-dropping visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, intense Soulslike combat, and a deep mythological world to explore, Black Myth captured imaginations immediately upon its reveal.

And it delivered. Upon release in 2024, the game reportedly sold 20 million copies in its first month, cementing its place as a major new IP in the gaming space. It’s earned critical acclaim for its combat depth, cinematic presentation, and its respectful yet imaginative take on Chinese mythology.

What to Expect on Xbox

Now that Xbox players are finally included in the journey, they can expect all the content released so far, along with the optimizations Game Science has spent the last year working on. While it’s not yet confirmed whether Xbox will get platform exclusive features or enhancements, the studio has said it aims to deliver “parity across all current-gen systems.”

That includes full ray tracing support on Xbox Series X, adaptive difficulty settings, and access to all current post-launch content.

It’s been a long journey, but the fabled staff-wielding hero will finally land on Xbox consoles this August. For players who’ve been waiting patiently, Black Myth: Wukong looks set to be well worth it.

Mark your calendars for August 20 and get ready to walk the path of legend.
