A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Call of Duty may finally be on the way or at least, that’s what recent reports and official statements are beginning to suggest. Despite being absent from the initial reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, which is currently confirmed for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Activision says fans shouldn’t worry. News is coming “soon.”
The development has reignited interest in Microsoft’s 2023 agreement to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms for the next ten years a deal made as part of the tech giant’s effort to finalize its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard. While many assumed that meant Call of Duty would be a staple of Nintendo’s next hardware generation, Black Ops 7’s current console line-up raised eyebrows when the Switch 2 was left off the list.
Activision Responds
Speaking with outlets following Black Ops 7’s full reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase, Activision representatives assured fans that their commitment to bringing Call of Duty to Nintendo hasn’t changed.
“We’re actively working to get the franchise on Switch,” an Activision spokesperson said. “We’ll share more information when we’re ready.”
That statement aligns with comments made by Xbox leadership earlier this year, reiterating that the Nintendo Switch 2 is part of their long-term platform strategy for Call of Duty. It also makes strategic sense. If Black Ops 7 is already launching on last-gen consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, a Switch 2 version especially with its expected hardware bump seems entirely plausible.
Why It Matters
Nintendo has long been left out of the Call of Duty loop. The franchise hasn’t had a mainline entry on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts on the Wii U.
But with the Switch 2 featuring a significant leap in performance powered by NVIDIA technology and boasting DLSS support the opportunity to bring feature-complete Call of Duty experiences to Nintendo players is finally within reach.
What’s Next?
All eyes are now on Activision and Nintendo. With Black Ops 7 due out on October 25, 2025, there’s still time for a Switch 2 announcement to materialize.
Whether Black Ops 7 hits day one on Nintendo’s new console, or comes later as a port, it seems the wheels are finally in motion for Call of Duty’s return to Nintendo. Until then, fans can expect news “soon” and likely, not a moment too soon.
