Silent Hill Remake Officially in Development by Bloober Team

The iconic horror classic returns with a modern twist

Konami has officially announced that a full remake of the original Silent Hill (1999) is in development, and it’s being handled by Bloober Team the studio behind the recently released Silent Hill 2 remake. The news was confirmed during the company’s “Press Start” showcase on June 12, 2025, where fans were treated to a brief teaser featuring the series’ signature fog, eerie atmosphere, and Akira Yamaoka’s chilling score.

This remake marks the second major collaboration between Konami and Bloober Team, further cementing the Polish developer’s position as a key creative partner in reviving the Silent Hill franchise. The original Silent Hill, which debuted on the PlayStation in 1999, is widely regarded as one of the most influential survival horror games ever made, thanks to its psychological storytelling, oppressive atmosphere, and disturbing visuals.

A Faithful Yet Modern Reimagining

While details on the gameplay and narrative direction of the remake remain scarce, insiders suggest that Bloober Team is aiming for a faithful recreation of the original’s storyline, while modernizing gameplay systems, controls, and visuals to meet contemporary standards. The studio has previously emphasized its commitment to honoring the legacy of the franchise while updating the experience for a new generation of players.

“The challenge is capturing what made the original Silent Hill so unforgettable its sense of isolation, dread, and psychological horror while making it approachable and immersive for modern audiences,” said Bloober Team’s CEO in a post-announcement interview. “We’re not just porting the game with updated textures; this is a full remake built from the ground up.”

The remake is expected to use Unreal Engine 5, much like Silent Hill 2, and will likely feature full voice acting, cinematic cutscenes, and enhanced environmental storytelling. While a release window hasn’t been provided, industry analysts speculate the game could arrive sometime in late 2026 or early 2027, possibly timed to coincide with the Silent Hill franchise’s 30th anniversary.

Early rumours also hint at expanded story elements and new lore additions, though it’s unclear whether Team Silent the original developers will have any direct creative input.

A Revival in Full Swing

This announcement comes amidst a broader resurgence of the Silent Hill brand. In addition to the Silent Hill 2 remake and now the original game’s remake, Konami is also working on Silent Hill f, a new title set in 1960s Japan, and Silent Hill: Townfall, a narrative-driven spinoff developed by No Code (Stories Untold). The publisher is clearly betting big on restoring Silent Hill to its former glory.

Fans have reacted with a mix of excitement and cautious optimism. While the Silent Hill 2 remake received generally positive reviews for its atmospheric visuals and attention to detail, it also faced criticism for gameplay stiffness and pacing issues problems Bloober Team will be eager to address moving forward.

The return of the original Silent Hill through a full-scale remake is a dream come true for longtime fans and a golden opportunity for newcomers to experience the game that helped define psychological horror. With Bloober Team once again at the helm and Konami recommitted to the series, the foggy town of Silent Hill may soon reclaim its throne atop the horror genre.
