It looks like Rockstar Games may have something big in store for Red Dead Redemption 2 fans, and the internet is already saddling up with speculation.
During a recent livestream, Rob Wiethoff the voice behind Red Dead’s iconic gunslinger John Marston teased that he has “very exciting news” to share this week. While Wiethoff was careful not to spoil anything, he hinted that an official announcement involving “others” would be coming before Friday. Naturally, this cryptic tease has sent the Red Dead community into a frenzy.
Fans and insiders alike are now buzzing with theories, the most prominent being that a long rumoured next-gen upgrade or full remaster of Red Dead Redemption 2 could finally be unveiled. Despite being one of the most critically acclaimed games of the last decade, RDR2 has never received a native PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S release. Players have long hoped for a performance patch or enhanced edition that brings the game up to modern standards such as native 4K support, faster load times, and that all-important 60 frames-per-second gameplay.
Adding fuel to the fire, Roger Clark who portrayed Arthur Morgan in the game recently commented that players “shouldn’t write off” the possibility of a Red Dead remaster or remake. He noted that Rockstar has already shown willingness to revisit past titles like GTA V and the original Red Dead Redemption, further suggesting that something similar could be on the horizon for RDR2.
What’s more, the announcement timing has led some to speculate about compatibility with newer platforms like the anticipated Nintendo Switch 2, which is expected to launch with beefed up specs. A potential remaster or upgraded port could serve as a major headline title for Rockstar across new-gen systems.
At this stage, Rockstar Games has yet to confirm or deny any of the swirling rumors, but with Wiethoff’s comments pointing to a reveal this week, fans likely won’t have to wait long. Whether it’s a next-gen patch, a full remaster, or something entirely unexpected, the return to the American frontier may be closer than we think.
So dust off your hats, clean your revolvers, and stay tuned something big is coming, and it might just change the way we experience Red Dead Redemption 2 all over again.
