Nightdive Studios has announced a short delay for the highly anticipated System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster on consoles, shifting its release window from June 26 to the first two weeks of July 2025. Originally set to hit PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch alongside its PC counterpart, the console editions will now arrive a little later due to final certification issues and lingering multiplayer bugs.
In a statement addressing the delay, Nightdive explained the setback was necessary to ensure the game launches in its best possible form across all platforms. “We encountered some last-minute issues during the console certification process and identified a few co-op multiplayer problems that require attention,” the team said. “We understand the disappointment, but we’re confident the extra time will result in a smoother experience for all players.”

Despite the hiccup on consoles, PC players will still be able to experience the remaster on June 26, as planned. The game will be available via Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Humble.
The System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster is a faithful yet modernized revival of the critically acclaimed 1999 sci-fi horror shooter. Built on Nightdive’s proprietary KEX engine, the remaster features overhauled visuals, modern lighting, updated audio, improved performance, and support for up to four-player co-op with cross-platform play. Quality-of-life improvements and mod support are also baked in, making it the definitive way to experience one of the genre’s most influential titles.
Set in the year 2114 aboard the starship Von Braun, System Shock 2 drops players into a tense, atmospheric blend of first-person shooter and RPG gameplay. After awakening from cryo-sleep, the player discovers the ship has been overrun by mutants and controlled by the malicious rogue AI, SHODAN. To survive, players must upgrade their abilities, gather resources, and strategically fight through the chaos as they uncover the truth behind the outbreak.

Nightdive has assured fans that the console version is nearly complete and that they will provide a concrete release date once certification is finalized. For now, players can look forward to diving back into the twisted corridors of the Von Braun on PC next week with the console experience to follow closely behind.
Stay tuned for further updates as Nightdive prepares to bring this legendary horror experience to modern consoles.
