In a major shift for one of virtual reality’s most iconic games, Beat Games has announced that Beat Saber will be ending support for PlayStation VR (PS VR) and PlayStation VR2 in early 2026. While the game will remain playable for existing users, the studio confirmed that no new content or updates will be released for Sony’s VR platforms going forward.
A Final Song
The last content drop for PS VR and PS VR2 players arrived on June 5, 2025, with the release of Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra” as part of the game’s ongoing music pack collaborations. With no new tracks planned, this marks the symbolic end of new Beat Saber experiences on PlayStation hardware.
Multiplayer functionality will also be phased out, with Beat Games setting January 21, 2026 as the final date for online support on PS VR and PS VR2. After that, Beat Saber will be strictly a solo experience for PlayStation players.
Continued Access But No New Growth
Although future updates are ending, players on PS4 and PS5 can still purchase and enjoy Beat Saber and all existing DLC. Cross-buy remains intact, meaning users who bought the game on PS4 can still play it on PS5 with supported VR hardware.

Beat Games has assured fans that customer support will continue for PlayStation users, ensuring the game remains functional and stable even after development focus shifts elsewhere.
Why the Shift?
The move likely reflects Meta’s continued influence over the direction of Beat Saber. Since acquiring Beat Games in 2019, Meta has made the game a flagship experience for its Quest headsets, with rapid feature development and music releases optimized for Meta’s standalone VR ecosystem.
As VR continues to evolve, the studio appears to be concentrating its resources on the Meta Quest and SteamVR platforms, where a majority of the Beat Saber user base now resides.
What This Means for PlayStation VR Owners
For fans still slicing through neon blocks on PS VR and PS VR2, this change is bittersweet. While all current content will remain accessible, the platform is now essentially frozen in time. No more new music packs, gameplay updates, or multiplayer enhancements will arrive on Sony’s VR hardware after early 2026.
It’s a notable shift, especially for PlayStation VR2 users who expected continued support following the headset’s 2023 launch. However, with Beat Games choosing to streamline development and focus on more actively growing platforms, this pivot seems inevitable.
The Future of VR Rhythm Games
Despite the sunset on PlayStation VR support, Beat Saber is far from over. The game remains one of the most successful and recognizable VR titles ever made, with a community that spans Meta Quest, PC VR, and modding circles.
Whether new challengers rise to fill the PlayStation VR rhythm void or Beat Saber eventually returns with next-gen hardware, one thing is certain: the beat goes on but not on PS VR.

One response to “Beat Saber Ends Support for PS VR and PS VR2 in 2026”
To be honest, I would care about this because I really enjoyed Beat Saber (played it a lot and still would) on PS4, but SONY never sent me my adaptor to use the PS VR on PS5, so I can’t play it anyway. I am so p*ssed off with SONY about that, so much so that this news doesn’t really affect me anyway.
