Sega has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated remake of Persona 4 won’t launch until at least April 2026. The news was quietly slipped into Sega’s recent 2025 Management Meeting presentation, where the company outlined its roadmap for future releases. According to the document, Persona 4 Revival is now scheduled for “FY2027 or later,” meaning its release window spans from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2027.
A Long Road to Inaba
Originally announced at The Game Awards 2024, Persona 4 Revival is a modern remake of the beloved PlayStation 2 RPG. It promises an overhauled visual presentation, revamped gameplay systems inspired by Persona 3 Reload, and full voice acting with a re-recorded English cast. The remake is expected to arrive on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Day One launch on Xbox Game Pass.
While fans were hopeful for a 2025 release perhaps to coincide with the game’s 17th anniversary the delay confirms that Atlus is taking a slow and steady approach to development. The remake is part of a broader strategy to bring classic Persona titles to a modern audience, but fans looking to revisit Yasogami High and the Midnight Channel will need to remain patient.
Ripple Effects for Persona 6
The delay of Persona 4 Revival has also sparked renewed speculation about Persona 6. While Atlus has yet to formally unveil the next mainline entry, many fans were anticipating a reveal or teaser sometime in 2025. However, with P4 Revival now taking up the FY2027 release slot, it’s increasingly likely that Persona 6 won’t arrive until 2027 or later.
This aligns with Sega’s apparent strategy of spacing out major Persona releases rather than stacking them too close together. With Persona 3 Reload launching in early 2024, and now Persona 4 Revival pushed to post-2026, the timeline for Persona 6 continues to stretch further into the future.
A Strategic Delay
From a business perspective, the delay makes sense. Sega has seen immense success with its remakes of legacy titles, and it’s clear they want Persona 4 Revival to hit the same critical and commercial high notes as Persona 3 Reload. Rushing the project could jeopardize its quality and reputation, especially among long-time fans of the series.
The company also cited a desire to avoid internal competition between major releases. With Metaphor: ReFantazio launching later this year and the mysterious Stranger Than Heaven project also scheduled for FY2027, spacing out these high-profile titles ensures a more balanced release calendar.
What to Expect
Though the release is still far off, Sega and Atlus have already shared a few key details:
- The game will feature reworked dungeon exploration with seamless combat transitions.
- Social Links, character models, and environments are being rebuilt from the ground up.
- The beloved original soundtrack by Shoji Meguro is being remastered, with new tracks reportedly being added.
Players can also expect accessibility improvements, quality-of-life tweaks, and possibly new side stories or additional Social Link content.
The Bottom Line
While the news of a delay is disappointing, especially for die-hard Persona 4 fans, the extended development cycle could ultimately result in a richer and more polished experience. In the meantime, fans can revisit the original via Persona 4 Golden, currently available on PC and consoles, or dive back into Persona 3 Reload to tide themselves over.
Persona 4 Revival is now slated for release sometime after April 1, 2026, with more information likely to surface in 2025 or early 2026. As always, stay tuned to 1-Up Games for updates from Sega and Atlus as development continues.
