Destiny: Rising Launches August 28 for iOS and Android

The Light Returns in Mobile Form Bungie and NetEase Team Up for a New Chapter

The world of Destiny is expanding once more this time onto mobile devices. Destiny: Rising, will officially launch on August 28, 2025, for iOS and Android platforms.

A New Era, A New Guardian

Set in a timeline separate from Destiny and Destiny 2, Destiny: Rising introduces players to an alternate take on the Destiny universe. The game takes place during the post-Dark Age, a time when humanity is beginning to rebuild after collapse. You play as a Lightbearer, one of the first Guardians rising from the ashes to reclaim Earth’s scattered remnants of civilization.

Unlike its console counterparts, Destiny: Rising is built from the ground up for mobile, offering a more streamlined but still richly layered experience. It blends fast-paced shooter mechanics with role-playing progression and character-driven storytelling.

Gameplay and Features

The game promises an ambitious suite of features that Destiny fans will find familiar yet fresh:

  • Hero-Based Combat: Choose from a roster of playable Lightbearers, each with their own unique powers, weapons, and narrative arcs.
  • Flexible Perspective: Players can switch between first-person and third-person views depending on their playstyle.
  • Multiplayer Modes: Whether solo or squad, the game includes campaign missions, co-op PvE challenges, and competitive PvP skirmishes.
  • Touch and Controller Support: Destiny: Rising can be played with touchscreen controls or external controllers for a more console-like feel.

Though it retains the iconic gunplay and space-fantasy visuals the Destiny franchise is known for, Rising has been tailored for shorter sessions and on-the-go action.

A Bungie-Netease Collaboration

NetEase Games has worked closely with Bungie to ensure that Destiny: Rising remains true to the spirit of the franchise while opening the doors to a broader audience. This isn’t simply a spin-off it’s an entry point into a part of the Destiny mythos we’ve never seen before.

Development on Destiny: Rising has reportedly been ongoing for over four years, and early alpha tests in select regions last year garnered positive feedback for both gameplay polish and visual fidelity.

Pre-Registration and Rewards

Players can now pre-register via the official Destiny: Rising website and mobile storefronts. Milestone rewards including exclusive skins, resources, and emotes will be distributed to players’ accounts once they complete Chapter 1-1 of the campaign after launch.

A Destiny Worth Watching

While some long-time Destiny players may be cautious about a mobile-only title, Destiny: Rising is shaping up to be a serious extension of the series, not just a cash-in. With Bungie’s universe-building expertise and NetEase’s mobile development power, this could be the beginning of something big for fans new and old alike.

Mark your calendars August 28 could be the day the Light rises again.
