FromSoftware is in ‘Advanced Development’ of an Unannounced Game Coming Next Year, It’s Claimed

Could the next great Soulsborne already be closer than we think?

FromSoftware, the acclaimed Japanese studio behind Elden Ring, Bloodborne, and Dark Souls, is reportedly deep into development on a brand-new, unannounced title and it’s allegedly set to release as early as next year.

The claim comes from reputable leaker and gaming industry insider Lance McDonald, who stated during a recent livestream that the studio is in the “advanced stages” of development on a yet-to-be-revealed project. While McDonald didn’t provide concrete details on the genre or IP, he hinted that it’s not a sequel to Elden Ring or Armored Core VI, suggesting something entirely new or a return to a long-dormant franchise.

“There is a FromSoftware game coming out next year. It’s in the advanced stages of development… it hasn’t been announced yet,” McDonald said. “It’s not related to Elden Ring or Armored Core, but fans will be very happy.”

FromSoftware has been unusually prolific in recent years. After the monumental success of Elden Ring, which won Game of the Year in 2022, the studio followed up with the critically praised expansion Shadow of the Erdtree in 2024 and Armored Core VI in 2023 both of which further cemented their reputation for deep mechanics and atmospheric worldbuilding.

Fans have long speculated on possible revivals of older IPs like Bloodborne, Sekiro, or even Déraciné, though none have been officially confirmed. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the studio’s president and creative lead, has previously expressed interest in experimenting with new ideas while also revisiting beloved franchises adding further fuel to the speculation.

With Gamescom and The Game Awards both looming later this year, it’s possible we’ll get a proper reveal before 2025 begins. For now, fans can only speculate, but one thing is clear: the next FromSoftware experience may not be as far away as we thought.
