Lollipop Chainsaw Is Officially Back, With Multiple New Projects On the Way

Juliet Starling’s chainsaw revs up once more as Dragami Games eyes a full franchise revival.

In an unexpected yet welcome twist, Dragami Games has officially confirmed that the Lollipop Chainsaw franchise is gearing up for a major comeback. In collaboration with Taiwanese firm Nada Holdings, the studio is preparing “several new projects” that will expand the cult classic beyond its roots as a standalone game.

The announcement, made via press release and multiple Japanese outlets, comes on the heels of Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, the 2024 remaster that surprised many with its strong sales and nostalgic reception. While initially positioned as a one-off revival, RePOP’s success has convinced the studio to go further.

“We are excited to breathe new life into Lollipop Chainsaw,” said Yoshimi Yasuda, President of Dragami Games. “This isn’t just a remaster or a sequel—this is a long-term vision for the franchise.”

Beyond Games: A Multimedia Expansion

Interestingly, the projects in development won’t be limited to video games. According to the companies, they are aiming for a “multifaceted strategy” that includes “cross-industry” collaborations. While no concrete details have been revealed, this language suggests that an anime adaptation, comics, or even live-action ventures could be in the pipeline.

Nada Holdings’ involvement appears to be more than financial. Their role will reportedly include IP expansion and helping bridge the franchise into markets outside Japan.

“Juliet Starling remains a vibrant and unique character who resonates with fans across the globe,” a joint statement read. “We believe the world of Lollipop Chainsaw has only just begun to be explored.”

The Original Creators: Will They Return?

One lingering question is whether the original creative minds behind the game namely Suda51 and James Gunn will be involved. Neither has commented on the revival as of yet. Given the new direction and ownership, it’s unclear whether the new projects will retain the same tone, writing style, and satirical edge that defined the original game.

Still, fans remain cautiously optimistic. The remaster, despite being toned down compared to the original’s over-the-top presentation, sold over 1.5 million units and helped reintroduce Juliet Starling to a new generation of players.

A Cult Classic Reborn

Released in 2012, Lollipop Chainsaw was a bombastic hack-and-slash that combined absurd humor, cheerleader aesthetics, and zombie mayhem into a uniquely polarizing package. Though critics were divided, it quickly gained a cult following. The idea of the franchise expanding more than a decade later is something few predicted but many welcome.

At this stage, it’s too early to know what form these new projects will take. What’s clear, however, is that Dragami Games and Nada Holdings see Juliet Starling not just as a one-hit wonder, but as the centerpiece of a full-fledged franchise.

And if that means more chainsaw-swinging, bubblegum-popping action in the years ahead, fans will no doubt be lining up to see where the madness goes next.
