Remedy Entertainment has confirmed it is working side by side with Rockstar Games on a full remake of Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne. Both titles are being rebuilt from the ground up in a single package for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, using Remedy’s proprietary Northlight engine.
The partnership brings the two companies back together for the first time in years. Remedy created the original Max Payne in 2001 and its sequel in 2003, while Rockstar served as the publisher for both and later developed Max Payne 3 in 2012. According to Remedy CEO Tero Virtala, the collaboration has been “close and productive,” with Rockstar providing full funding and handling publishing duties.
Production moved into a full development phase earlier this year after an extended concept stage. Remedy says the aim is to deliver a game that feels authentic to fans of the originals while taking advantage of modern visuals, audio, and gameplay systems. “We’re committed to making the Max Payne remake excellent, both creatively and commercially,” Virtala said.
No release date has been announced, but industry analysts believe the scale of the project points toward a launch window sometime in 2026. For now, fans can expect updates to come through Remedy’s quarterly reports and Rockstar’s own channels as development progresses.
