Fans of dark fantasy action games won’t have to wait much longer for the return of Lords of the Fallen. CI Games has confirmed that the long-anticipated sequel, Lords of the Fallen 2, will make its official debut during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 19, 2025.
The announcement didn’t arrive through a flashy trailer or cinematic teaser at first. Instead, Geoff Keighley, host of Opening Night Live, shared a cryptic image showing the Roman numeral “II” splattered in blood, accompanied by the phrase “Blood Will Spill.” Not long after, CI Games’ CEO Marek Tyminski reposted it, directly naming the project as Lords of the Fallen II. For fans who have been waiting years for news, that subtle reveal was enough to ignite excitement.
Aiming for 2026 Release
According to reports from CI Games, the sequel is currently targeting a 2026 launch window. It is being built using Unreal Engine 5, which suggests significant visual improvements and a much richer atmosphere than its predecessor. The game is planned for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, though the PC edition will launch exclusively through the Epic Games Store.
What to Expect
While the publisher has kept story details under wraps, the team at Hexworks has hinted at several key improvements over the 2023 reboot. Among them are expanded accessibility features, a reworked cooperative mode with shared progression, and deeper combat systems that aim to refine what players enjoyed the first time around. CI Games has also stressed a “quality over quantity” philosophy, with the sequel expected to deliver more polished storytelling, stronger pacing, and gameplay that blends challenge with fairness.
The original Lords of the Fallen carved out a niche as an early challenger in the “soulslike” space. While reception was mixed, the 2023 reboot helped the franchise gain new life, praised for its visual design and ambitious mechanics. With the sequel, the developers have a chance to cement the series as a major name alongside giants like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
The Road Ahead
Fans won’t have to speculate for long. The world premiere trailer is locked in for Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, one of the biggest gaming showcases of the year. If the teaser image is anything to go by, expect a darker, bloodier, and more ambitious vision of the Lords of the Fallen universe.
For now, all eyes are on August 19. If CI Games delivers, Lords of the Fallen 2 could end up being one of 2026’s most anticipated releases.
