Capcom has been keeping a tight lid on Resident Evil Requiem, but that hasn’t stopped leaks and rumors from slipping through the cracks. The latest word making the rounds claims that the game won’t just focus on a single survivor this time, but instead give players control of three different characters over the course of the story.
The only confirmed character so far is Grace Ashcroft, the FBI analyst who was introduced during the game’s announcement trailer earlier this year. Grace is meant to be a fresh face for the series, and Capcom has been upfront about wanting her to embody a more vulnerable, grounded take on survival horror. Unlike series veterans such as Leon Kennedy or Chris Redfield, Grace isn’t a hardened soldier. She’s someone learning to cope with nightmarish situations as the story unfolds, which should create a tone closer to Resident Evil 2 than the action-heavy entries in the franchise.
Still, long-time fans can’t help but speculate about who else might be playable. Multiple insider reports suggest that Leon Kennedy could appear in a significant role, even if Capcom has been deliberately dodging questions about him. The idea is that Leon might represent a contrast to Grace where she’s fragile and untested, he’s experienced and confident. Whether that makes him playable in full story chapters or only in select sequences remains to be seen.
Perhaps the most surprising rumour is that the third playable role could go to Alyssa Ashcroft, a character who first appeared in Resident Evil Outbreak. If this leak is true, it could mean Capcom is tying the Outbreak sub-series more directly into the modern timeline. Early chatter suggests Alyssa’s sections may not be as extensive as Grace’s, instead functioning as flashback-style sequences that flesh out the Ashcroft family’s history.
What’s fascinating here is how this approach mirrors what Resident Evil 6 attempted with its multiple overlapping campaigns though hopefully with tighter pacing and fewer filler moments. By weaving different perspectives together, Capcom has a chance to build a story that feels bigger and more interconnected without losing the intimacy that makes survival horror work.
Of course, all of this needs to be taken with a grain of salt. As of now, Capcom has only gone on record about Grace, and everything else is built on leaks and speculation. That said, the idea of balancing three characters each with their own style of play would certainly make Requiem stand out in the series.
With Gamescom around the corner and more reveals expected in the coming months, fans won’t have to wait long to see whether these claims hold up. For now, it’s safe to say that anticipation for Resident Evil Requiem has only grown stronger thanks to the possibility of multiple playable survivors.
