Bandai Namco has officially confirmed what fans have been hoping to hear for years: Tales of Xillia Remastered is on the way. The remaster launches October 31, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, giving a new audience the chance to experience one of the most beloved entries in the long-running JRPG series.
Originally released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2011 (2013 in the West), Tales of Xillia stood out for its dual-protagonist structure. Players could choose to see the story unfold through Jude Mathis or Milla Maxwell, adding a layer of replayability that most games in the series didn’t offer. The combat system also pushed the franchise forward, laying the groundwork for mechanics later seen in Tales of Berseria and Tales of Arise.
What’s New in the Remaster
The remaster isn’t just a simple upscale. Bandai Namco has confirmed a long list of quality-of-life improvements that modernize the game without altering its identity. Expect features like:
- Auto-save support
- The option to toggle random encounters
- Retrying battles after defeat
- Skippable cutscenes and skits
- Clearer map icons for quests, items, and chests
- Subtitle support during combat
On top of that, the interface has been streamlined with better item management, volume controls, and customizable camera distance. These may sound like small touches, but for a 40+ hour JRPG, they’ll make a noticeable difference.
DLC and Deluxe Edition
Bandai Namco is also including nearly all of the original game’s DLC, ranging from costumes to extra items. Licensed collaboration content may not make the cut, but over 40 DLC packs will be there from day one. For those who want even more, a Digital Deluxe Edition adds a digital artbook, soundtrack, and special in-game bonuses.
Tales of Xillia has long been one of the most requested remasters in the series. For years, fans debated whether Bandai Namco would skip it and move straight to Tales of Xillia 2. Instead, the company is giving this cult favourite another chance to shine and for many players, this will be their first opportunity to play it without digging out an old PS3.
With Tales of Arise already having pushed the series to new heights, it feels like the perfect time to revisit the games that helped get it there.
