Fans of the grimdark future of the 41st millennium finally have something big to look forward to. Relic Entertainment and Sega have officially announced Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, the latest entry in the long-running real-time strategy series. The game is currently in development for PC, with no release date confirmed yet.
A Return to Large-Scale Warfare
The Dawn of War series has been a cornerstone of PC strategy gaming since its debut in 2004, known for mixing traditional RTS base-building with the distinct factions of Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40K universe. While Dawn of War III experimented with a more MOBA-inspired approach, Relic has confirmed that Dawn of War IV will return to the large-scale battles and deep base management that defined the earlier games.
In their announcement, the studio teased sprawling maps, larger armies, and “the most faithful digital recreation of the Warhammer 40K battlefield yet.” Players can expect to command iconic factions such as the Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, and Chaos, with more armies promised closer to launch.
Built for Modern PCs
Relic has emphasized that Dawn of War IV is being built with modern PC hardware in mind. The game will run on a new version of the studio’s Essence Engine, promising more detailed unit models, destructible environments, and improved AI systems. Dynamic weather and lighting will also play a role in both presentation and gameplay, creating more immersive battlefields than ever before.
Community and Competitive Play
Multiplayer has always been central to Dawn of War, and Relic confirmed that Dawn of War IV will include ranked matchmaking, custom lobbies, and full mod support at launch. The studio is also planning large-scale post-launch updates, which may include new factions, campaign expansions, and balance patches shaped by community feedback.
Although there’s no release window yet, Relic has promised more information later this year, including a first look at campaign gameplay. For fans who have been waiting since 2017’s Dawn of War III, this announcement marks a long-awaited return to one of the most beloved RTS franchises in PC gaming.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war and it looks like PC players will soon be back on the front lines.
