Gearbox has officially revealed the next playable Vault Hunter for Borderlands 4, and it’s not the sort of character fans might have expected. Named C4SH, this new addition arrives as part of the game’s first major story expansion, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned,” set to launch in early 2026.
Unlike the four launch Vault Hunters, who were built into the main campaign, C4SH will be introduced through the DLC as a fully playable fifth character. His design leans into Borderlands’ trademark mix of dark humor and chaotic mechanics: C4SH is a former casino dealer-bot repurposed for combat, built around a theme of risk and reward.
A Gambler’s Edge
C4SH’s action skills are all tied to probability. In practice, this means his abilities can grant huge buffs, devastating attacks, or situational debuffs depending on how the odds play out. It’s a system meant to capture the feel of rolling dice or spinning a roulette wheel mid-battle, creating moments where players might hit the jackpot or come up empty. Early previews suggest his kit will appeal to players who like taking chances and leaning into unpredictable gameplay.

Part of a Bigger Package
The DLC itself, “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned,” takes players into a new environment with a focus on twisted carnival and casino themes, a fitting backdrop for C4SH’s introduction. Beyond the new character, the expansion promises new loot, bosses, and side quests, offering reasons to dive back into Pandora’s chaotic universe.
While C4SH won’t be available until the DLC arrives, his reveal has sparked plenty of excitement among fans eager to see how the gambling mechanics fit into Borderlands’ fast-paced combat. With Gearbox continuing to support Borderlands 4 through meaningful content, the arrival of C4SH looks like the start of a bold new phase for the game.
Borderlands 4 players can expect “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned” and C4SH to launch in early 2026 on all platforms.
