Monster Hunter Stories and Wings of Ruin Finally Arrive on Xbox This November

On Xbox Finally

For years, Monster Hunter fans on Xbox have been left watching from the sidelines while Nintendo and PC players enjoyed Capcom’s spin-off RPGs. That gap finally closes on November 14, 2025, when both Monster Hunter Stories and its sequel Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin make their debut on Xbox Series X|S.

This marks the first time either title will be available on Microsoft’s consoles, and for long-time players it’s an overdue expansion. The Stories sub-series is a very different beast compared to the mainline hunts instead of tracking giant monsters with friends, these games lean into a more traditional turn-based RPG structure. You don’t just fight monsters; you raise them, bond with them, and bring them into battle as allies. It’s a softer take on the Monster Hunter world, but one with plenty of charm.

The first Monster Hunter Stories originally launched on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2016, later making its way to mobile platforms. While it never matched the global reach of the mainline series, the game developed a loyal following thanks to its lighthearted tone, colorful art style, and surprisingly deep monster-raising systems. The Xbox release gives newcomers a chance to see where the spin-off began, now on modern hardware.

Its follow-up, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, was released in 2021 on Nintendo Switch and PC. The sequel built on every aspect of the first game bigger environments, more monsters to hatch, and a fully voiced story that leaned into anime-style drama. Many fans consider it the definitive version of what the series can offer, and bringing it to Xbox broadens its reach even further.
