Nintendo has officially planted a new flag in Southeast Asia. On September 26, 2025, the Japanese gaming giant announced the establishment of Nintendo Singapore Pte. Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary set up to expand its operations in the region.

The move isn’t entirely surprising. Southeast Asia has become one of the fastest-growing gaming markets in the world, thanks to a combination of rising internet penetration, mobile adoption, and a young population with a strong appetite for interactive entertainment. For Nintendo, whose consoles and franchises continue to dominate globally, having a dedicated base in Singapore gives the company a foothold in a strategically important market.

According to filings, Nintendo Singapore was created with a capital stock of S$8 million. The company will be led by Takahiro Miura, who also serves as the CEO of Nintendo Korea. That dual role suggests Nintendo wants to streamline its efforts in Asia under leadership familiar with regional trends and consumer behaviour.

While the company hasn’t yet revealed specific plans for Nintendo Singapore, the announcement leaves plenty of room for speculation. Will it lead to faster game releases in local languages? Could it mean official eShop access for more countries in the region? For now, Nintendo is simply stating that the new entity exists to “accelerate business in Southeast Asia.”

For fans across the region, though, the news alone is cause for optimism. Nintendo is finally putting down roots in a market that has long supported its consoles and characters. Whether you grew up playing Mario Kart in Manila, Pokémon in Kuala Lumpur, or Zelda in Jakarta, the establishment of Nintendo Singapore could mark the beginning of a much closer relationship between Southeast Asian players and the company that helped define modern gaming.
