It looks like Bandai Namco isn’t finished revisiting its PlayStation 3 era just yet. According to User ryokutya2089, known for compiling reliable information from Famitsu magazines on a relatively consistent basis, Tales of Xillia 2 is currently being developed for modern platforms as part of the company’s ongoing “Tales Remaster Project.” The report follows a recent Famitsu interview with series producer Yusuke Tomizawa, who hinted that multiple remasters are in production, with some still in early testing.
While Tomizawa didn’t name specific titles during the interview, ryokutya208 claims that Xillia 2 is among the projects “still in development.” This follows the upcoming Tales of Xillia Remastered, which is set to release on October 31, 2025, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
If true, the Xillia 2 remaster would continue Bandai Namco’s recent trend of revitalizing older Tales entries. Over the past few years, the publisher has brought Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Vesperia to modern systems, improving accessibility for longtime fans and newcomers alike.
Originally released on PS3 in 2012 (Japan) and 2014 (West), Tales of Xillia 2 served as a direct sequel to the original game, taking place a year after the events of Jude and Milla’s story. The sequel introduced new protagonist Ludger Kresnik and featured a branching narrative that placed greater emphasis on player choice something rare for the series at the time.
No official word has been given on the scope of the remaster, but fans are hoping for higher resolution visuals, improved frame rates, and perhaps a few quality-of-life tweaks to modernize the experience. The original game’s battle system, which combined fluid character switching with fast-paced combos, remains one of the most well-regarded in the franchise.
For now, it’s worth tempering expectations until an official announcement is made, but it certainly appears that Tales of Xillia 2 will soon get another chance to shine. Given the recent focus on revisiting the series’ most requested classics, this move feels like a natural next step.
Fans eager to replay Ludger’s story or experience it for the first time might not have to wait too long. Tomizawa reportedly stated that the next remaster announcement will arrive “fairly soon.”
If that’s true, we could be heading into a new golden era for Tales fans, one where the best of the PS3 generation finally gets the treatment it deserves.
