In a major update for fans of the franchise, Halo Studios formerly known as 343 Industries has confirmed that several new Halo titles are currently in development. The announcement was made during the company’s “A New Dawn” presentation, where the studio also revealed a full shift to Unreal Engine 5 for future projects.
What’s changing behind the scenes
With the move to Unreal Engine 5, Halo Studios says it is reorganising its structure so multiple teams can work on separate titles simultaneously. As studio head Pierre Hintze put it:
“If you really break Halo down, there have been two very distinct chapters. Chapter 1 – Bungie. Chapter 2 – 343 Industries. Now, I think we have an audience which is hungry for more. So we’re not just going to try improve the efficiency of development, but change the recipe of how we make Halo games.”
Meanwhile, chief operating officer Elizabeth van Wyck explained that the legacy Slipspace Engine had required too much internal engineering, and switching to Unreal allows the team to focus more on actual game content.
What we know and what we don’t
What we do know:
- The studio has publicly stated that “multiple Halo titles are in development”.
- These projects are being built in Unreal Engine 5 to set a new technological foundation.
- Halo Studios is re-branded from 343 Industries, marking a clear new chapter for the franchise.
What we don’t know yet:
- Exact titles, genres or scopes of the upcoming games.
- Release windows or platforms for those new titles.
- How many of the projects are remakes/remasters, sequels, spin-offs, or entirely new directions.
- Whether the online/multiplayer component will shift significantly compared to previous Halo games.
The announcement changes the narrative around the Halo franchise. Instead of the studio focusing on one major game at a time, it appears Halo Studios is preparing to stagger multiple releases, potentially closing the gap between launches and diversifying what the franchise offers. That could mean more frequent spin-offs, remakes, or entirely new experiences beyond the mainline Halo formula.
For fans, this is an exciting sign the wait between big Halo experiences might shorten. But it also sets high expectations. With more titles in the pipeline, quality will be under the spotlight. Halo has a legacy to live up to.
Looking ahead
Until then, the message is clear: Halo Studios is gearing up to dramatically expand the Halo universe. Whether that leads to a remake of the original, a new multiplayer entry, or something entirely unexpected not to mention yet-unannounced platforms remains to be seen.
