Splinter Cell Remake Director David Grivel Returns to Ubisoft to Finish the Project

Good News?

After several years away, David Grivel has announced that he’s officially back at Ubisoft and he’s returning to the project he helped kick-start: the Splinter Cell remake.

Grivel originally served as the game’s director when Ubisoft first confirmed the remake back in 2021. Not long after, he left the studio to join DICE and work on what is widely believed to be Battlefield 6. His departure raised questions about the remake’s timeline, especially as Ubisoft went quiet on the project.

Now, Grivel says he’s back to help finish what he started. The announcement comes as welcome news to longtime fans of Sam Fisher, many of whom have been waiting over a decade for the stealth icon to return in a full-scale release.

While Ubisoft still hasn’t shown new footage or offered a clear release window, Grivel’s return is being seen by fans as a sign of renewed momentum behind the remake. His original vision emphasized modern stealth design, improved AI, and rebuilding the classic game from the ground up with contemporary presentation and technology.

Ubisoft has consistently described the project as a “from-scratch” remake that respects the tone of the original, and having its initial creative lead back may help unify the direction as development continues.
