Ark 2, the long-in-development sequel starring Vin Diesel, is now reportedly targeting a 2028 release window, according to sources familiar with the project. The game was first revealed back in 2020, meaning it could end up with an eight-year development cycle by the time it launches.
Originally unveiled with a cinematic trailer featuring Diesel as Santiago, Ark 2 was positioned as a major evolution of the survival franchise, promising a more narrative-driven experience, revamped combat, and a shift toward third-person action. However, since its announcement, updates on the game have been sporadic, with repeated delays and long stretches of silence from developer Studio Wildcard.
Behind the scenes, Ark 2 has reportedly faced significant development challenges, including engine transitions, shifting creative direction, and the ongoing support of Ark: Survival Ascended, which itself demanded substantial resources. These factors are believed to have contributed to the increasingly distant release timeline.
If the 2028 target holds, Ark 2 will stand as one of the more extreme examples of modern AAA development timelines, particularly for a sequel announced so early in production. Despite this, Studio Wildcard has continued to reassure fans that Ark 2 remains a core priority, with the studio committed to delivering a more ambitious and polished experience than its predecessor.
For now, Ark 2 remains firmly on the horizon just much farther away than many originally expected.
