Despite concerns that Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic could be many years away, director Casey Hudson has now confirmed that the game will release before 2030.
Speaking candidly about the project’s timeline, Hudson reassured fans that the wait won’t stretch indefinitely, joking that time is a factor even for him.
“The game will be out before then,” Hudson said. “I’m not getting any younger!”
While no specific release window was provided, the comment marks the clearest guidance yet on when players can realistically expect to see the ambitious new Star Wars title arrive. Since its announcement, Fate of the Old Republic has remained largely under wraps, with development reportedly focused on building a strong narrative foundation and long-term franchise potential.
The project is being positioned as a major new pillar for Star Wars games, with Hudson’s involvement immediately drawing comparisons to his previous work on Mass Effect. That pedigree has fueled high expectations, but it has also contributed to a cautious development approach that appears focused on quality over speed.
Earlier reports suggested the game was still years away, and Hudson’s statement doesn’t contradict that rather, it narrows the window. A release in the late 2020s now appears to be the most realistic scenario.
For now, fans will need to remain patient, but Hudson’s comments at least put a definitive ceiling on the wait. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is coming just not anytime soon.
