Granblue Fantasy Is Finally Coming to Steam in March 2026 With a Major Catch

Granblue fantasy

After more than a decade as a browser and mobile phenomenon, Granblue Fantasy is officially making the leap to Steam. Cygames has confirmed that the long-running RPG will launch globally on Steam on March 10, 2026, marking the first time the core Granblue Fantasy experience is available on PC storefronts outside its traditional platforms.

However, there’s a significant caveat that longtime players should be aware of.

According to the announcement, existing Granblue Fantasy accounts will not be able to link with the Steam version. This means players with years of progress, characters, and weapons on browser or mobile will be starting from scratch if they choose to jump over to Steam.

A Big Moment for Granblue Fantasy With Strings Attached

Granblue Fantasy has been one of Japan’s most enduring live-service RPGs since its debut in 2014, amassing a massive global fanbase despite being largely locked to browser and mobile platforms. A Steam release has been one of the community’s most requested features for years, especially as the franchise expanded with Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Versus Rising.

The Steam version is expected to offer improved stability, controller support, and PC-friendly performance options, potentially making it the most accessible way to experience the game for new players.

For veterans, though, the lack of account transfer is a bitter pill. Many have invested thousands of hours into their existing profiles, and starting over may be a dealbreaker for some.

Why No Account Linking?

Cygames hasn’t provided a detailed explanation yet, but similar issues in the past have been tied to platform-specific infrastructure, legacy account systems, and regional publishing agreements. Still, the decision is likely to spark backlash among longtime fans hoping for a seamless transition.

That said, the Steam release could also be viewed as a clean entry point for new players, especially those curious about Granblue Fantasy but intimidated by its decade-long content backlog.

Whether this Steam launch reinvigorates Granblue Fantasy’s global presence or divides its player base remains to be seen. What’s clear is that March 2026 will represent a major new chapter for one of the industry’s longest-running RPGs even if not everyone gets to bring their progress with them.
