Time to Jump in Again

Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed is officially making the jump to PlayStation 5. The studio has confirmed that the fantasy RPG will arrive on Sony’s console on February 17, launching alongside a substantial new patch dubbed the “Anniversary Update.”

The PS5 release comes just under a year after Avowed first landed on Xbox Series and PC, and it marks another step in Microsoft’s increasingly flexible platform strategy. For PlayStation players who’ve been watching from the sidelines, this version won’t be a stripped-back port. Instead, it arrives in lockstep with an update designed to refresh the experience across all platforms.

While Obsidian hasn’t published full patch notes yet, the Anniversary Update is expected to introduce a mix of balance tweaks, quality-of-life improvements, and new content aimed at both returning players and first-time adventurers. Internally, the update is being positioned as a way to smooth out some of the rough edges players highlighted post-launch, while also expanding build variety and combat options.

Avowed takes place in the Living Lands, a region of Eora previously referenced in the Pillars of Eternity series. Since launch, the game has been praised for its world design and player freedom, though some fans felt it played things a bit safer than Obsidian’s more system-heavy RPGs. The Anniversary Update may be an opportunity for the studio to lean further into player expression.

From a technical standpoint, the PS5 version is expected to support performance and quality modes, with DualSense features likely to be implemented, though Obsidian hasn’t detailed those specifics yet. More information is expected closer to release.
