Bandai Namco has quietly dropped one of the biggest Dragon Ball game reveals in years with the announcement of Project AGE 1000, a brand-new Dragon Ball title set far beyond the timeline fans know and it’s shaping up to be something genuinely different.
According to early details, AGE 1000 has been in development for six to seven years, making it one of the longest-running Dragon Ball game projects to date. Even more notably, the game features character designs by the late Akira Toriyama, with developers confirming that Toriyama-sensei was deeply involved in shaping the project before his passing.
A Dragon Ball Game Set in the Distant Future
Project AGE 1000 takes place in Dragon Ball world year 1000, pushing the franchise into unexplored territory. Rather than retreading familiar arcs or timelines, the game is set well beyond anything seen in the manga, anime, or previous games.
Developers say the future setting allowed them to introduce entirely new characters, locations, and concepts that have never appeared in Dragon Ball before without being constrained by existing canon events.
That freedom is reportedly why AGE 1000 contains more elements and settings than any Dragon Ball game released previously, suggesting a larger scope than fans may be used to.
Toriyama’s Creative Stamp Is All Over AGE 1000
One of the most significant details to emerge is just how involved Akira Toriyama was in the project. Sources close to development say Toriyama-sensei put a tremendous amount of work into AGE 1000, particularly in character designs and world-building.
This isn’t just a case of unused concept art being repurposed AGE 1000 was actively shaped with Toriyama’s vision in mind, making it one of the last Dragon Ball projects to carry his direct creative input from the ground up.
For long-time fans, that alone makes this project feel special.
New Characters, New Era, New Possibilities
AGE 1000 will introduce brand-new characters never seen before, rather than relying solely on legacy fighters. While no gameplay details have been revealed yet, the emphasis on new faces and settings strongly suggests this won’t be a simple sequel or spin-off.
With such a long development cycle, expectations are high that this will be a major, ambitious Dragon Ball release, rather than a smaller experimental title.
Release Window and When We’ll Learn More
Project AGE 1000 is currently planned for release in 2027, though no platforms have been announced yet.
Fans won’t have to wait too long for additional details, however. Bandai Namco has confirmed that more information will be revealed at Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, scheduled for April 2026.
Dragon Ball games are no strangers to retelling familiar stories but AGE 1000 feels like a deliberate attempt to push the franchise forward instead of looking backward. A future-era setting, brand-new characters, and heavy Toriyama involvement make this one of the most intriguing Dragon Ball projects in years.
If Bandai Namco delivers on what’s being promised, AGE 1000 could mark the start of an entirely new era for Dragon Ball games and one that finally breaks free from the same old timelines.
More details are coming soon, and all eyes will be on Battle Hour 2026.
