Respawn Entertainment has confirmed that Apex Legends will soon be winding down support for the original Nintendo Switch, with service officially ending on August 4.
The announcement was shared via EA’s official website, where the developer revealed that Season 29 will be the final update for the original Switch version of the battle royale. When Season 30 launches on August 4, ongoing support will continue exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2, which has hosted its own version of Apex Legends since August 2025.
Importantly, Respawn reassured players that no progress will be lost in the transition. All progression, cosmetic purchases, and earned content are tied directly to EA accounts, meaning everything will carry over seamlessly to the Switch 2 version whenever players choose to upgrade. The team emphasized that this applies regardless of when the newer console is purchased.
Support for Apex Legends will remain unchanged on all other platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. According to Respawn, the decision to sunset the original Switch version comes down to performance and long-term sustainability, with the Switch 2 offering the power needed to keep the experience in line with the game’s evolving design.
“Our goal is to deliver a high-quality experience,” the studio said. “Thanks to Nintendo’s investment in the Nintendo Switch 2, the platform offers a great handheld experience for Apex Legends.”
While it marks the end of an era for the original Switch, the move isn’t entirely surprising. As Apex Legends continues to grow in scope and technical complexity, focusing on newer hardware allows Respawn to push updates and features without compromise. For players making the jump to Switch 2, at least, the drop won’t come with the cost of starting over.
