Wildlight Entertainment, the studio behind Highguard, has confirmed layoffs following reports that a significant portion of the development team has been let go.

The news began circulating after level designer Alex Graner shared publicly that he along with “most of the team” had been laid off. Shortly after, Wildlight released an official statement on social media acknowledging the cuts, though the studio did not provide a specific number of employees affected.

In its statement, Wildlight described the move as an “incredibly difficult decision,” confirming that while a number of team members have been let go, a “core group” of developers will remain to continue working on and supporting Highguard.

“Today we made an incredibly difficult decision to part ways with a number of our team members while keeping a core group of developers to continue innovating on and supporting the game.

We’re proud of the team, talent, and the product we’ve created together. We’re also grateful for players who gave the game a shot, and those who continue to be a part of our community.”

While the studio emphasized continued support for Highguard, it did not clarify how the layoffs will impact the game’s previously outlined content roadmap. That leaves open questions about the pace of updates, future features, and long-term live service plans.

The phrasing of the statement suggests that development will continue in a reduced capacity, though what that means in practical terms remains unclear.

Wildlight has not yet shared details regarding severance packages or transition support for affected staff.

For now, Highguard moves forward with a smaller team behind it. Whether the remaining core group can maintain momentum and deliver on future plans is something the community will be watching closely in the months ahead.
