Blades of Fire Hits Steam May 14 Alongside Massive 2.0 Update and New Game Plus

Second Wind

Blades of fire

MercurySteam’s dark fantasy adventure Blades of Fire is finally making its way to Steam and it’s not arriving quietly.

Publisher 505 Games has confirmed that the PC version will launch via Steam on May 14, alongside the rollout of the game’s substantial version 2.0 update, which will release simultaneously across all platforms as a free patch.

For those curious but not yet committed, a Steam demo is available now, offering players the full first chapter to experience Aran de Lira’s unforgiving world firsthand.

Originally released on May 22, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series consoles, and PC via the Epic Games Store, Blades of Fire carved out a niche with its heavy, deliberate combat and unique weapon-forging mechanics. Now, with Steam in the mix and a sweeping content update in tow, the game is getting a second wind.

What’s Included in the Steam Release

The Steam version launches as the definitive edition of the game, bundling in version 2.0 along with several bonuses.

Players will receive:

  • The “Adventurer Pack” (previously sold separately on consoles and Epic)
  • A digital art book
  • The original soundtrack composed by Oscar Araujo

Meanwhile, the 2.0 update itself is free for all existing players, regardless of platform.

Version 2.0 – What’s New?

The 2.0 update is far from minor. It adds both substantial new content and technical improvements.

New Content

  • New Game Plus
  • Titanium difficulty level
  • New weapon parts and skins (exclusive to New Game Plus)
  • Elements Transmutation, allowing players to alter material types
  • Photo Mode
  • Boss Revival Mode, enabling boss rematches with rewards
  • Adso’s weapon spells, unlocked through Boss Revival Mode, adding special combat-enhancing effects
  • Yes, you can now pet the Ox

Improvements

  • Expanded death and mutilation variations
  • Smoother animation transitions
  • NVIDIA DLSS4 support

Additional Features

  • Full keyboard and mouse key remapping
  • New achievements
  • Steam Deck compatibility

A Second Life on Steam

With New Game Plus, additional difficulty options, and deeper combat customization through spells and transmutation, version 2.0 feels like a significant evolution rather than a routine patch.

For newcomers, the Steam debut provides the most complete version of the game yet. For returning players, Boss Revival Mode and Titanium difficulty offer reasons to step back into Aran’s boots.

Blades of Fire arrives on Steam May 14, and if MercurySteam’s ambitious update lands as intended, this could be more than just a platform expansion it might be the moment the game truly finds its long-term footing.
